“ABBAQueen” by the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus is on Saturday, September 19 at 7:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 230 NE 9th Street in Bend. Doors open at 6:15pm. Clifford Cook, Vice President of the local Human Dignity Coalition and the Coordinator for the concert said: “This is a once in a decade opportunity to hear and see the PGMC perform right here in Central Oregon. This is the same concert they performed for Portland Pride now being brought to Central Oregon by the PGMC to benefit Human Dignity Coalition, PFLAG Central Oregon and the GSA Clubs of Central Oregon”.
Tickets are just $20 for VIP Seats and $15 for General Admission and $10 for Seniors 65+ and students. Tickets are available at http://bendticket.com/go/ABBAQueen Over 400 people are expected so everyone is encourage to get tickets in advance. The performance is in the main Sanctuary of the church. It has been at least eight years since the Chorus was here in Bend.
Sponsors helping with this specific performance are Bill Dickey of Morel Ink of Portland and the Equity Foundation based in Portland. The Portland Gay Men’s Chorus is sponsoring their performance so that this can be a significant fundraising event for HDC, PFLAG Central Oregon and the GSA Clubs of Central Oregon.
PGMC was the 4th gay men’s chorus to organize in the United Sates and did so in 1980 after some Portland men visited San Francisco and heard the chorus there. The Portland chorus was the first in the United States to ever perform in a state capital by performing in 1985 at the swearing in ceremony for then Secretary of State Barbara Roberts. The chorus later performed in the Salem state capital for Governor Barbara Roberts, Kitzhaber and Kulongoski.
